Good Practices in Containing the Spread of Emerging Methods of Suicides: Some Hong Kong Experiences
August, 28 | 17:00 - 18:30

Hong Kong has been experiencing several new novel methods of suicides in the past two decades, for example, charcoal burning, helium suicide and the use of sodium nitrite. This lecture will review the profiles of these suicides based on Coroner Court data and assess the effectiveness of the community response in containing the spread into the community. This information is useful in preparing a response to new and emerging methods going forward. The role of media will be discussed including how we can leverage their strength to help to combat rises in novel methods.
