PS32 - Exploring Suicidal Behavior in Clinical Settings: Results on Suicide Attempt From the SURVIVE Study

Suicide Attempt in Adolescent Patients: Risk Factors and Their Interacting Patterns
August, 30 | 08:30 - 10:00

One of the major health and social challenges among young people is suicide. It is estimated that suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among individuals aged 15 to 19 worldwide. In Spain, suicide became the leading cause of non-natural death among young people aged 14 to 19 in 2020, and the rate has been gradually increasing over the past 10 years. This problem affects not only the clinical population but also the general population, especially youths with some risk factors. Given the magnitude of these findings, primary and secondary suicide prevention is a crucial health objective, making it important to study and identify these risk factors that influence suicidal behavior in adolescents. The main objective of this presentation is to examine and discuss the influential role of different risk factors on the severity of suicide attempts in adolescent patients and explore their interrelationships. Various variables will be studied, including sociodemographic data, presence of migration and trauma, impulsivity, toxic habits, emotional distress, and other mental health diagnoses; and their associations with suicide severity will be examined in patients that at least had committed one suicide attempt.
