Anonymous and Autonomous: When Do We Let Go?
August, 30 | 12:00 - 13:00

The aim of the Dutch suicide prevention helpline is to provide a safe and anonymous environment for help seekers to discuss and disclose their suicidal thoughts and behaviors. But also to prevent suicides. Where do those two aims contradict each other? And where does the responsibility of the helpline begin and end? What if a help seeker shares a concrete suicide plan that can be prevented if emergency services are informed? Or what if the help seeker is a 14 year old adolescent? In this oral we’ll discuss these and similar dilemmas and how these might conflict with the current Dutch model.
