Meeting: Suicide Prevention Helpline in Europe (SPHERE)

  • August, 28 | 12:00 - 13:00
  • Room MN

Since Samaritans' inception in the 1950s, suicide prevention helplines have spread across Europe and have become recommended components of national suicide prevention strategies.
While sharing core principles such as remote empathetic and non-judgmental assistance, helplines vary widely in the services they provide, their support delivery methods, the public they target, and their staffing.
The Suicidology and Suicide Prevention section of the European Psychiatric Association aims at creating a special task force dedicated to Suicide Prevention Helplines in Europe with the following aims:
- Map suicide prevention helplines in Europe,
- Create a space for sharing expertise and experience,
- Develop a community of practices,
- Trigger shared research dynamics,
- Identify and address shared challenges,
- Promote helpline services and share results.
