Dr. Yunyu Xiao is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Health Informatics Department of Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC). She is a 2023 Google Research Scholar Recipient and NIMHD 2022 Health Disparities Research Institute Scholar, dedicated to identifying social determinants of health relevant to mental health equity. Dr. Xiao leverages longitudinal and nationally representative databases and electronic health records to study disparities in suicide and mental health, as well as to inform clinical and policy interventions for at-risk groups. Her research integrates machine learning, natural language processing, causal modeling, and advanced longitudinal analyses to innovate the detection and prevention of youth suicides. Dr. Xiao has published over 85 academic journal articles in leading medical journals such as JAMA Psychiatry, JAMA Pediatrics, JAMA Network Open, Pediatrics, Journal of Affective Disorders, Translational Psychiatry, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, and Psychological Medicine. She has been supported by NIMH (RF1MH134649-01, R01MH121922, R01MH121907), NIDA (CHERISH Center, P30DA040500), American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (YIG-2-133-22), Mental Health Research Network (MHRN, U19MH121738), Google Research Scholar Program, National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM), and Center for Health Economics of Treatment Interventions for Substance Use Disorders, HCV, and HIV (CHERISH).
